WIRED iPad App Seeing Impressive Demand

According to a tweet sent by its NY bureau chief, John Abell, WIRED magazine has reportedly sold 24,000 downloads of its $4.99 per copy iPad app on its first full day in the App store.  The app has received 420 ratings with an overall average of four stars.  Of course, if any magazine is going to perform well out-of-the-gate as an iPad app, its WIRED.  Let's see how sales hold up over the next fwew days, and, more importantly, for its its next issue.

Google, Verizon Developing iPad Rival

According to the Wall Street Journal, Google and Verizon Wireless are teaming up on an Android powered tablet device.  In an interview with WSJ, the comany's CEO, Lowell McAdam said, "We're working on tablets together. We're looking at all the things Google has in its archives that we could put on a tablet to make it a great experience."

Tech Exec at EMC Reviews The iPad

Chuck Hollis, the Gloabl Marketing CTO at EMC, has a fun post (What iPads Did To My Family) on his personal blog about his family's week-one experience with the iPad.  Hollis makes the iPad's impact vividly clear with such comments as:

The members of my family immediately gravitated to the new shiny thing -- no prompting, no encouragement, no migration, etc.  They are drawn to it like a moth to flame.

Even more revealing is this statement:

I don't think I'll be buying any more desktops going forward.  I don't think I'll even be buying any more laptops going forward.

They've all been largely obsoleted (at least at my home) by a sleek $499 device that doesn't really have any right to be called a "computer" in the traditional sense.

Yahoo iPad Users Are Rich

According to data released by Yahoo on the Yahoo Mobile Blog, Yahoo iPad users were 94% more likely to be affluent consumers with solid wealth and strong incomes than typical U.S. Yahoo users.   The report, which also indicates that male iPad users outnumber fenmale users 2:1, is based on analysis of iPad user behavior on the Yahoo! network.
