Apple Has Sold Over 1 Million iPads

Apple put out an official release this morning announcing that it sold its one millionth iPad on Friday, just 28 days after its introduction on April 3.  In addition, Apple said that developers have created over 5,000 iPad apps, there have been over 12 million downloads of apps for iPads, and over 1.5 million downloads of ebooks from the iBookstore.

On a related note, according to Philip Elmer-DeWitt, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster estimated that Apple sold 300,000 iPad 3Gs over the three-day launch weekend, including units pre-ordered online for Friday delivery. So, it appears that Apple has sold roughly 1.3 million total iPads (with and without 3G).

iPad 3G Arrives Tomorrow

As previously announced by Apple, iPad Wi-Fi + 3G models will be delivered to U.S. customers who’ve pre-ordered tomorrow and will be available in Apple Retail Stores tomorrow as well starting at 5:00 p.m.

Due to its always-connected nature, this version of the iPad is much more deserving of the "magical" characterization that Apple likes to use when referring to the device in its press releases.  The device will be far more powerful as a tool for browsing the web, providing near-instant access to books and periodicals, streaming video and using gaming and other applications.

iPad 3G Available in Stores April 30

Apple has officially announced that the 3G models of its iPad will be delivered to US customers who’ve pre-ordered on Friday, April 30, and will be available in Apple retail stores the same day starting at 5:00 p.m.

Yesterday we noted that people who placed orders at the Apple store online would not receive their iPad until May 7.

iPad 3G Ship Date Slips to May 7

Looks like the supply disruptions that resulted in a month delay for the international drop date for the iPad have now also impacted the ship date for the 3G version of the iPad here in the U.S.  According to the Apple Store, iPads ordered today will ship by May 7.  Back on March 5th, Apple announced that the iPad 3G model would be available in "late April."
